I still remember the first time I saw this at Retromodern. I loved it so much, I went to the Home Depot on Ponce and made one myself for about a tenth the cost. But nothing beats the real thing, and there’s one on eBay right now. It failed to sell at the opening bid of $19. It was listed with a Buy It Now price of $39. The vase was designed by Constantin Boym and Laurene Leon Boym in 1998 and subsequently produced by Benza.
Constantin Boym was born in Moscow, Russia in 1955, where he graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute. He earned a Master's degree in design from Domus Academy in Milan. In 1986 he founded Boym Partners Inc in New York City.
Laurene Leon Boym was born in New York City in 1964. She earned a BFA from School of Visual Arts in 1984, and a MID from Pratt Institute in 1993. Since 1995 she has been part of BOYM Partners Inc.
In 1999, Jasper Morrison selected the vases for the International Design Yearbook and shortly thereafter, Benza put the pieces into production. Measures 4" x 8" x 9.75" height; diameter of openings are 4". Made of PVC (quite obviously!)
