Relazione di Quattro sculpture | Enzo Mari | Danese, Italy | 1959

Enzo Mari
Danese, Italy, 1959

Relazione di Quattro translates to “Relationship of Four.”  It’s been a while since I’ve seen these objects appear on eBay and some internet research didn’t turn up anything.  The last time was a few years ago, when I saw some of Mari’s cubes offered individually.  Each cube in the set is 1 9/16” on a side and the cubes are graduated in weight.  If you have information about this piece or any other cubes designed by Mari, please share it!

This sculpture was sold on eBay on 10/31/2009 and attracted 8 bids and a hammer price of $710.  This example did not have the original box and in terms of condition, was stated to have “a chip out of a corner on one…and two other tiny edge flea bites.”

I quote another sculpture from this designer.
"Variazioni tematiche" same material, same concept:
this time a bigger cube, inside it four green spheres.
Those sculptures are an experiment made in 1959 inside the project of "art edition" launched by the Italian brand Danese.
Mari relates here to optical and kinetic art.
And what I found interesting was the process that had been used to realize those sculptures: a technique that uses time and patience.
consecutive layers of liquid resin that solidifyes creating effects of suspended bodies in kinetic balance.
if you're interested I can send you some pictures.

Hello i am going to sell 13 kind of those Enzo Mari créations, some bigs, some small, blue, grey, red, etc.
Byut everyone asks me not to sell them now because prices should araise very strongly in the next few years. What do you think ?

I think Mari is way beyond just a designer, but an excellent artist as well. I think his popularity will grow and his art will only increase in value. I have some information about some of the cubes - I have been waiting until I have more until I post about them. At least some you have are probably part of the 3018 series. Can you send me pics/info at objectplastic (at) gmail.com and I will send you what I have! Cheers--Kevin
