Lumitime clock | Various designers | Tamura Electric Corp., Japan | ca. 1970 | UPDATE

LumitimeVarious designers
Tamura Electric Corp., Japan, ca. 1970

February, 2011 Lumitime clocks.  There were a lot more of these clocks selling on eBay than normal during the first half of the month, then the sales slowed down to nothing.  It has been my experience that shipping for a Lumitime is typically around $10.

Ritz Italora, Italy, 1966
Alessi, Italy, 1988, 2010

The Fall of 2010 saw the reissue of black and orange colors of the Cronotime clock in ABS by Alessi.  The Alessi site states the Cronotime is a “Desk clock in ABS, black. Second edition (first one in 1988)”.

Alessi reissue of Cronotime clock

Cronotime clock information sheet (front)

Cronotime clock information sheet (back)

The English text reads:

“CRONOTIME CLOCK”

Designed by Pio Manzù in 1966, this clock is produced in two versions: in 18/10 stainless steel and Abs. The quartz movement uses a LR1 1.5 V battery with a duration of about twelve months. The battery separately included in the box must be placed in the movement in the direction indicated in the diagram (D). The time is set by turning the regulating hand wheel in the direction indicated in the diagram (C).

The case is formed of two equal sections of a cylinder (2 and 4), curved and inserted one in the other in such a way that they can be rotated to give the clock different shapes. They are connected by an elastic ring (3), that in the As version attached the two sections together permanently, while in the stainless steel version it is detachable. In the Abs version the stability is guaranteed by a leaden disk.

The clock mechanism (1). Made up of the front, the dial and the movement, constitutes a single element and is inserted into the case (2) with a bayonet joint (A); it may also be rotated, in order to follow the different forms that the clock can assume.

The clock mechanism (1) is considered to be a single replacement part (code no. 01/BCOMPLE for art. 01/B; code no. 01/ICOMPLE for art 01/I-01/W), thus if replacement is necessary you can request a new clock mechanism from your dealer and insert it easily into the case.

GUARANTEE

This clock is covered by an international guarantee for one year from the date of purchase. The guarantee covers all manufacturing defects. Damage caused by accidental impact or by improper use is excluded, as are the replacement of parts accidentally damaged, and the replacement of the battery. In the event of break-down, return the clock to the “Alessi Clocks” appointed retailer from whom it was bought, enclosing a copy of the guarantee certificate properly filled in, that you will find in the enclosed booklet.

ingenuiTEA teapot | Yu-Mei Tien Lin | adagio teas, United States of America | 1997

ingenuiTEA teapotImage source:  adagio teas.

Adagio teas bills it as the most convenient teapot you will find anywhere, and they guarantee it. When the tea is brewed, simply place it atop your cup. This will cause a valve at the bottom to release: tea flows down, while the mesh filter retains all the leaves with one of the best infusers on the market. Super easy to clean and dishwasher safe. And it's microwaveable - perfect for the office or the road. You will wonder how you got along without one. Made in Taiwan with food-grade polycarbonate that is certified by SGS to be BPA-free.

The ingenuiTEA teapot comes in a 16 oz (retail $19) and 32 oz (retail $24) designs.  It features replaceable infusers in case the filter tears or is otherwise broken.  The 16 oz replacement retails for $3 and the 32 oz replacement retails for $4.  Reports are that the filter holds up for a long time.  There are also glass mugs that are made to fit the pot.  Any mug or cup can be made to work and most fit well.  While microwave safe, I’ve found it easier to heat the water separately and pour it over the tea.  It also has a small tray the teapot sits on.

The bottom of the teapot indicates that it is covered by US Patents 5,826,493 and 6,058,827.  The evolution of the design between the two patents is apparent.

The video above was posted by prteaco and is also on the Adagio website as a demonstration of how to use the ingenuiTEA pot.

The ingenuiTEA is easy to clean, easy to brew, and makes it easy to drink...hot tea.

An update to my post of January 26, 2009, the Spyros ashtray by Eleonore Peduzzi Riva for Artemide.  This Spyros ashtray generated 18 bids and a selling price of € 81 ($110).

Described by the seller (translated from Italian) as melamine in the rare red. Curious version with brand advertising. Perfectly intact on the whole, all the rubber at the base there. Some fine scratches.
