Enzo Mari is a prolific Italian furniture and accessory designer who also ventured into sculpture and art. Enzo Mari did not just sculpt spheres. He also sculpted cubes and cylinders (more on those in a later post) of various kinds. Here is another of Mari’s sculptures: Cubo 21. The title is as reported in the auction catalog. The number likely refers to the number of this cube in the edition as it is numbered 21 out of an edition of 50.
This sculpture by Enzo Mari is lot 723 at the 71st sale at Kunst und Auktionshaus W.G. Herr, held Saturday, November 24, 2012. It is a 10cm by 10cm by 10cm cube of acrylic on a 20cm by 20cm white base, similar to this sculpture by Mari. The estimate was €500 - €1,000 with a starting bid of €500. The sculpture realized €1,200.
The sculpture is signed on the underside of the white base plate and within the acrylic.
