March 4–10, 2013: Shared vintage modern plastic design

Here are the items that were shared the week of March 4, 2013.  Included were two lamps, a plate, a hanger, a chair, a carafe, and some really cool hanging birds!

Monday, March 4, 2013: Sculptural table lamp, with characteristics of an infinity light. Features a Lucite stand and aluminum frame.  Dimensions approximately 20” height and 16” diameter.

Tuesday, March 5, 2013: Deka plate or tray with a colorful stylized bird design.  Signed © 1969 DEKA PLASTICS, INC.  The piece is 12-3/4” in diameter.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013: Hand made art piece acrylic light cube (1980).  White, with two transparent bands through which light can shine.  The cube is lit by a 22 watt circular fluorescent light bulb that is secured inside of the cube.  This cube is sturdy enough to use a a table or art pedestal. This cube is signed by the maker/designer and dated 1980. Stamped “0199” on the bottom.  Measures 15” on a side.

Friday, March 8, 2013:  “The Little Bird” by Executive Games, Inc. of Boston, Massachusetts, United States.  Copyrighted 1971, these feature articulated wings and can be hung by spring to bounce with a slight touch.  The large birds are 9” by 8”, the small birds are 6” by 5”.

Friday, March 8, 2013: Stewart AM ball radio in red, model #22845.  Radio is 4” in diameter and has its original carry chain and ear piece.

Saturday, March 9, 2013:  Child’s chair designed in 1964 by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper for Kartell, Italy. This was the first all-plastic chair.  Also known as the 4999/S or K 1340. Measures 19-1/2” high (11” seat height), 11” wide, and 11” deep.

Sunday, March 10, 2013:  Zojirushi vacuum carafe. Zojirushi (pronounced ‘zoh-jee-ROO-shee’) began in Japan in 1918 as a manufacturer of hand-blown vacuum bottles.  The name Zojirushi means “Elephant brand” in Japanese. The handle of this carafe pops up with the push of a button. The carafe is 8” in diameter and 8” in height and has a 1 liter capacity.
