Skull bowling ball | Ebonite | Hopkinsville, Kentucky, United States of America

Happy Halloween!!  The Skull ball was popularized by Janeane Garofalo as The Bowler in “Mystery Men,” the underground classic superhero comedy from 1999 starring Ben Stiller as Captain Furious.

The popular ball has since been reissued.   The Skull features a skull inside the core of the ball with a clear-coated polyester coverstock.  The result is as fear inducing as anything in bowling could possibly be.

Prices for the ball are very reasonable on the secondary market (eBay and the like) and even with shipping, this ball can be had for less than $100.  It would look equally good on the lanes or as a wicked Halloween accessory in the home.  Think scary crystal ball?  Regardless, it makes me want to go bowling again!  Image source:  eBay.

Glow goblets | David Douglas | United States of America | 1973

Glow goblets by David Douglas

In my post about the Genie server carafe, I mentioned the “lighted beverage glass” patented by David Douglas in 1975 with a filing date in 1973.  Called Glow goblets, these glasses featured a light bulb illuminated base, powered by a single AA battery.  The glasses each measure 8” in height.  Thank you Ted L. for sending me the link to this item!
