Lucite nut cracker | Madrid, Spain

2 Lucite nut crackers

I thought the last nut cracker was pretty good.  This one is absolutely stunning!  It is also made of thick, chunky, transparent Lucite.  It is the one on the left in the picture above.

Lucite nut cracker separated

The nutcracker comes in two parts.  The base (on the right) is a solid cube 2-1/4” on a side, attached to a 3/4 inch diameter threaded screw that is 2-1/4” long.  For strength, this piece looks to have been cast as a single part.

Where the nut gets cracked (on the left) is also a cube, 2-1/4” on a side.  There is a circular opening, 1-5/8” in diameter and 2” deep, milled into this cube.  The opeining is centered slightly to the top.  This is where the nut is placed to be cracked.  A 3/4” diameter threaded hole serves to accept the screw cracker from the base.

Head on views of the two parts of the nutcracker.

Lucite nut cracker Madrid Alamo label

On the bottom of the base of the nutcracker is a part of a maker label still attached.   Clearly evident is the name “MADRID”.  Less obvious is the wording on the side “?LAMO”?  Any information about how this reads would be greatly appreciated!

Lucite nutcracker

Lucite nut cracker oblique

Here is a Lucite (acrylic) nutcracker, and it’s one of the best, most  modern looking nutcrackers I’ve ever seen!  Simply designed with clean lines, it is made of transparent acrylic.  Where there are screw threads, it has a matte finish.

The base of the nut cracker is just under 3” by 3” by 1” depth.  There is a large, 1-1/2” diameter circular opening to allow insertion of a nut and a threaded hole in the top to allow for the cracking.

Lucite nut cracker screw

Through this threaded hole is placed a 1/2” diameter screw, 3” in total length, also made of Lucite.  The flared screw handle is well designed for gripping and turning against a nut.  The handle is approximately 1” by 1-1/4” in size.
